Art Clay Silver & Gold: 18 Unique Jewelry Pieces to Make in a Day Art Clay Silver & Gold: 18 Unique Jewelry Pieces to Make in a Day

Reviews

It is pretty much nonsense that you can make these pieces in a day-- some of them maybe yes, but mostly no. Some of the directions given don't work, and then if you want to make the piece you are on your own. But there are some interesting new ideas.

Like Jackie's later book Metal Clay: The Complete Guide, she totally ignores the fact that there is more than one metal clay product on the market. Why? Because Jackie does not distribute Precious Metal Clay® (PMC) made by Japan's Mitsubishi Materials Corporation; she runs Art Clay® World, USA, Inc, distributing Art Clay®, a metal clay product made by Aida Chemical Industries, Ltd. At the very least, she might have discussed the pros and cons of the two companies' products. To ignore PMC® altogether seems too mercenary an approach to writing a project book. I said my peace when panning Jackie's book Metal Clay. The projects shown are somewhat inspirational but the "faux raku" project stands out as just plain economically silly. For "faux raku," Art Clay® Silver paste is applied over terra cotta then, after firing, liver of sulfur is applied for a raku-like patina. It occurred to me that it would be a whole lot less expensive to actually make raku pottery than to make "faux raku" with jewelry-grade silver. Yes, you can do it with Art Clay® but why would you?

The instructions were good and I found the advice great. I am just starting to apply my self to PMC. This book is just what I need. Thanks

Great book. Easy to use. Great ideas for projects. Taught me things that I did not learn in a class I took

This art clay (trade name) book covers what everyone should know that is going to use the Art Clay brand metal clay. The first sections/chapters get the basic stuff down so one can move on to the fun parts making the projects. The pictures are of a good size with large numbers to correspond to the descriptive blurbs. They are of the close up type with little background of the work surface visible. (I do hate it when they show more work surface than the item they are making.) The material lists are well thought out in their content. The glossary and the gemstone characteristic chart is a nice touch. the chart really important in selecting stones to bake with the clay. I own it

Liquid Polymer Clay: Fabulous New Techniques for Making Jewelry and Home Accents Liquid Polymer Clay: Fabulous New Techniques for Making Jewelry and Home Accents

Reviews

This is a really neat technique that I've yet to try. I am constantly adding to my polymer clay book collection and this was the only one I found on the uses of liquid clay. Very good instructions and lots of ideas in here. The liquid clay is something anyone can make themselves in the colors you want. Great used book too. I was very, very pleased.

This book is just wonderful :) I had it only 24 hours but I know it is the best written creative book I have so far. I sculpt with polymer clay and new ideas are always welcome and I truly did find some really good ideas. SUPER!!!

I borrowed this book from the library, and had to purchase. The most useful book on liquid polymer clay I've seen to date. VERY detailed instructions and photos for projects, with inspiration for your own. Superb!

I have been a polymer clay artisan for many years, and just recently became curious about what I could do with liquid polymer clay. This book was VERY useful in supplying me with information about the many uses of liquid clay. It is easy to read and is structured in a way that you can start at page one and go from there, or simply look up the technique you are most interested in. I was most impressed with the MANY step-by-step photos offered along with the written instructions for the different projects and techniques. Concise and comprehensive. It does a superb job of covering the lessons presented. However, there are a couple of techniques mentioned in the beginning of the book that I would like to have seen explored in more detail (like using a heat gun to quick-set liquid clay). Highly recommended for anyone who is already familiar with regular polymer clay and would like to explore a new direction. Moderately recommended for complete newbies - it does leave a lot of questions unanswered if you are totally unfamiliar with using polymer clay.

If you've never used Liquid PC, get this book and get started! As a PC artist, I found the uses of liquid PC staggering. The world of the PC artist is a very sharing and caring environment. That's one of the reasons I enjoy the craft so much as the artists are all very generous with their techniques and knowledge. The authors of Liquid Polymer Clay are no exception and have a wealth of tips and tricks within the pages of their book. Novice and Advanced artists alike will benefit from the Mitchell sisters' wealth of knowledge. Kudos to you both!

A Beader's Reference A Beader's Reference

Reviews

This book is chocked full of patterns. I have purchased two of them, one for me and one for my daughter (who, having seen my copy, wanted one of her own). The book is for beaders who already know how to read the patterns and work the stitches. There is information about making fringes, however. Not an instructional book, but very good for folks looking for more patterns! I recommend this book to beaders who are looking for more (and different) patterns.

I just got this book and I can't wait to get started using the many patterns. The book has about 200 patterns for the different beading techniques (right angle weave, herringbone, brick stitch, loom, etc.) This is the best beading book I have purchased in years. You will not go wrong if you purchase this book and like to bead.

There are so many patterns in here with great ideas for trims and fringes and other great touches for whatever you're doing. What I like is that you get some applications, but a lot of info so that you can come up with your own designs instead of just how to use that technique for a specified piece like many instruction books give you. I tend to make my own stuff rather than follow instructions so that my pieces are one of a kind. Good book for that.

This is a great book for ideas and inspiration. It is full of charts for beautiful patterns, and some amazing projects. She included a good variety of modern and vintage style designs which really fired my imagination. This is not so much a book for learning techniques as it is for getting great ideas for your work.

This book has been helpful to me because I am a beginner and there were things that I did not understand. They used pictures to explain the different sizes, shapes and materials used for beads.

Average Rating:

An indispensable tool, this new beading reference offers hundreds of patterns for motifs and centerpieces, borders and cords, and fringes and edgings. Beaders can peruse the patterns for inspiration, or use them directly for their own projects...
