The Black StallionReviewsThis is an outstanding family video. I consider it ann all time favorite. Very Classic. Very poor service from the Seller, but more than that the product we received was not "new" as stated. The DVD was of poor quality, obviously copied, the sound tract did not match the words being spoken in the movie. No response from the seller when we inquired about this. We also paid for expedited shipping and received standard shipping. Would definitely not recomment this seller. We had to go to good ol' Hollywood Video to get a quality product. We are embarrassed to have said we bought on Amazon.com for this movie. The movie deserved a much better quality product than what was received. Shame on you. That being said we have had good service previously from other sellers on Amazon. So we will proceed with caution from now on. Do NOT buy from this seller. We did not receive any support from Amazon either...but I guess that is the risk. This was a great buy. Unopened and shipped very fast! i got it in a couple days. thanks! If you are looking for a great movie for kids and adults this is it. Even the slower parts maintain interest by building the relationship between the horse and the boy. Fabulous cinematography. I've seen at least one other adaptation of this and it was not as good. Young girls may like National Velvet better but I feel this is a better film on all levels. I'm NOT a big horse nut, but the beauty of a Black Stallion should be iconic to most anyone regardless. If you appreciate beauty in many things, and the visual is your delight, this film should capture you bigtime. I was well into my 20's when I first saw this film, and there's nothing childish about it. It's a beautiful film for anyone who appreciates a cinamagraphic feast for the senses. Most rarely realize the first 40 minutes of the film are almost entirely without dialog. You are simply served a wonderfully filmed story with little need for more. While the first part of the story is sweet but simple, it turns nicely classic and more unusual as Mickey Rooney replays a serious hint of his childhood role in National Velvet, but now the boy grown old with years of hourse racing experience behind him. Again the images of the blazing fast Satllion running on a stormy nite for racing VIPs is just exquisitly done. The Big Wheel getting out into the muddy rain in his best shoes, looking at the panting hourse as if seeing some insane freak of nature. Man I love the imagery in this film, and your handed that again and again. The old barn, the barn office, the old cart horse in the foggy back streets of town. The country fields. And Rooney. If you love the gruff old fart for his spirit and untempered personality, you'll appreciate his true, but fittingly fiesty yet soft character in one of his best late career roles. The kid is perfect in his quirkyness, and Teri Garr is sweet as the mom who can't quite figure out how to deal with all the challenges that have suddenly entered her life. The last half of the story may be a bit of a stretch for 30's/40's hourse racing. I'm not sure. But if you simply pick at otherwise fantastic movies, I feel sorry for you. If you've seen it before, give it one more chance, in a quiet dark place with a bag of popcorn. Preferably a rainy nite. Have your dog sit at your feet. --LD Average Rating:![]() |

Racing Stripes (Widescreen Edition)ReviewsIn a video world rampant with cartoons, kid-toons,and some difficult-to-fathom videos geared to amuse (??), Racing Stripes is a hilarious, so very refreshing and entertaining story that will amuse adults and kids alike. Carrying a subliminal message that "different" is not at all a bad thing to be and using live animals (not pen and ink caracatures), you will meet some loveable and personable characters. You will find yourself laughing out loud at a misguided pelican with a New Jersey accent and anxiously cheering on that sweet little zebra who has the biggest heart ever to just keep trying in his quest to become what he repeatedly is told he can never be: a racehorse! "Young people" of all ages will get a dose of vitamins and energy for their inner child by enjoying this movie. It does have a few small "schmaltzy" moments, but the story and the celebrity voices of the characters are so mezmerizing that, try as you might, you can't help getting lost in the tale! Truly a movie that will brighten the gloomiest of people!!! It's infectuous!! A heartwarming story, but slow starting which could be a problem for keeping the attention of young children at first. Once it gets going (about a third of the way through) there is plenty of action and dialogue for even a 3 or 4-year-old. The scenery is beautiful, the talking animals believable and all the characters endearing. For adults, there are plenty of amusing puns to make it interesting while you watch with the kids! This is a great movie with a wonderful life lesson. My granddaughter loves it and we do too. The five star reviews make this sound like a wonderful movie for kids. For crying out loud haven't you read all the well-thought out and lucid arguments of the one star voters. If not, you are in for a real treat. Make sure you read all the one star's reviews for a really good time. I was practically in tears at the film's inaccuracies they so sanely brought to my attention (such as, you have to be a thoroughbred horse to be in this race and the zebra didn't have the right papers, plua the zebra never could have paid the $2,000.000 entry fee plus all the expense like hotel and airfare) by the time I was done 8) I have seen this movie in the theater when it first came out and since then I am a fan of it. So I finally bought it here and I can only say that is it well done in the animations for the animals, the plot is sweet and teaches that is doesn't matter what ou are...you can still be a winner. Its great for the parents..or the kids..or both together. Average Rating:![]() |

DVD For Dogs : While You Are GoneReviewsThis is an amateur video of weird, pseudo-classical music with animal scenes. My dogs show no preference to watching (which they dont) it or listening to the radio. Buy a bag of rawhides with your $10 My dog, Charlie, was VERY entertained by this video. When he got sick, he really loved to have the video on...I think it helped him feel better! Excellent! This DVD includes music from The Journey Continues CD. Highly recommend this for relaxation. Animals will love it! I bought this DVD for my large breed mixed rescue who has SERIOUS separation anxiety issues. I work from home, and I thought this would be a good way to keep him entertained in the other room while I was working. After the mixed reviews I wasn't sure if he would go for it or not, but since this DVD had more bird scenes than others I figured it was worth a shot (my dog loves watching birds). I also have a little shih tzu that is just the sweetest little thing, but she is more independent so if she enjoyed the DVD, that would just be a perk. Well...this definitely wasn't what I expected!!!! LOL The intro features some shots of various dogs and barking, plus the occasional dog whistle sounds (I think that's the sonic sounds they refer to in the DVD writeup--the dog whistles go off periodically to get your pooches attention back to the screen). Next up was the beginning of our "virtual walk" which is literally a path scene then closeups of various animals. The first set of animals was a group of squeaking prairie dogs. My mixed breed dog was interested, but the shih tzu turned into a little MONSTER! I have NEVER seen anything like it, she is normally the sweetest, calmest little dog I have ever seen. Instead, she was a snarling, growling demon who belonged in a cage match. She snapped at me, the other dog, and ran around like a possessed maniac. Needless to say, I fast forwarded ahead. The next scenes were pretty much all various types of birds--ducks, flamingos, chickens/rooster, then some wild birds. Again, I got a reaction I wasn't expecting...the little shih tzu was peaceful, the large breed was interested, but the pair of finches in my living room? Shrieking, chirping, and *ahem* lovemaking ensued. This must be like Barry White for birds because for about 5 minutes of each set of bird scenes (especially the chickens and wild birds) all my finches did was chirp and chase each other around their cage, occasionally catching each other, at which point I would recommend you cover your child's eyes unless you want to explain what kind of playing they are doing. Again I skipped ahead--the coyote scenes and farm animal scenes didn't produce any reactions of note. The virtual fetch caught my shih tzu's attention. She sat transfixed, though she was "hiding" behind the coffee table to watch. All in all, I think the nature sounds alone are worth it, though I would warn anyone to put it on while you are home a few times to make sure you don't get any surprises. I wish you could make a playlist to play only the scenes your dog likes on a loop, or even just loop one scene (obviously I need to bypass the prairie dogs haha). Instead, the entire DVD is only one constant track so you can't skip scene to scene (unless you just fast forward). I had a notion that my 2 yr old husky pup would not be into this, but figured I'd give it a shot anyway due to high ratings and " my dog never watched TV before, but loves this!" type reviews. Overall it seems well intentioned, but was mostly corny and annoying. There is a lot of movement and sound, but it gets old pretty quick and is not the best for a dog that needs a little more stimulus such as play and scent. The corny was the easy listening contemporary piano music throughout and the occasional strange, softly spoken word passages about dogs. Gives it kind of a suburban new age feel overall. The footage itself is pretty much someone filming playing fetch with their own dog in their backyard, some park paths, and animals at the local zoo? If you were unaware of what this was, you would think you were watching someone's home movies. Oh wait, you pretty much are. The annoying was the sound bytes of dogs whimpering on and off throughout, which I fail to see how this was supposed to be calming for dogs when it's generally a noise that comes from a dog that is stressed out or under duress. There's also some audio segments of kids screaming and yelling, which again, may not be the most ideal pleasant noise for all dogs. It's not a total loss as the auto loop function is a nice feature and I'll still leave it playing with the sound turned down and radio on in its place, but he's pretty indifferent towards it and my money would have been better spent towards some good nature documentaries instead, something a little more interesting visually for he and I both.
